**Whoopi Goldberg Spits After Saying Trump’s Name to Audience’s Delight on ‘The View’**
On Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg had a memorable reaction after she inadvertently mentioned former President Donald Trump’s name. The panel was discussing the upcoming CNN presidential debate between Trump and President Joe Biden. Despite ongoing concerns about Biden’s mental acuity, the women on the panel insisted that Biden was well-prepared for the debate.
Goldberg attempted to defend Biden without directly referring to Trump but found herself forced to when discussing Biden’s debate opponent. “I don’t think that we have to — I think it would be remiss of us to not say, Joe Biden knows how to do this…He knows how to do this. He’s quite good at this, and, you know, you can’t refute anything with him because he just — when I say him, I mean…” Goldberg said before stumbling.
Co-host Joy Behar chimed in, “He rambles. Trump.”
“Trump,” Goldberg said at the same time, and some in the audience started laughing. “He tends to just — ugh,” she said, before miming a spit to the side. The audience cheered at the action, with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin laughing and Sunny Hostin leaning far back in her chair with joy.
“Did you say his name?” Hostin asked.
“I said his name. It was a trick, and it made me do it,” Goldberg responded. She continued, “But I’m just saying that he – that Biden knows what not to do. You can’t refute that man [Trump] because he just spins and spins and spins. All you can really do is talk about what you do and how you do what you do.”
Goldberg has a history of refusing to directly use Trump’s name, commonly referring to him as “you-know-who” when frequently attacking the former president. In May, Goldberg called out Trump for sharing a meme mocking her for previously claiming she’d move to Canada if he won in 2016. “You know what I’m a little agitated about. That man had something to say to me,” Goldberg said, avoiding his name.
She continued, “Look, I’m not going anywhere. OK? And it’s not for the reason, you little snowflake, it’s not for the reason you think.” Goldberg knocked Trump for saying “nobody” wants her, touting her contract to stay on as a co-host for “The View,” although she didn’t specify the length. “I know where I’m going to be because I got a contract. So, I’m going to be here where I’m wanted for the next couple of years,” she retorted before cutting to a commercial.
The Oscar-winning actress also suggested that Alcatraz reopen after Sunny Hostin said Trump should be thrown “in the clink.” Donald Trump might not be in jail just yet, but The View ladies have already locked down where they’d like to see the former president serve time if he’s convicted at the end of his ongoing legal battle.
Oscar-winning moderator Whoopi Goldberg asked her fellow panelists Tuesday morning which facility they’d like to see welcome Trump if he’s sentenced to jail time in his hush money trial involving reported payments made to his alleged mistress Stormy Daniels, eliciting an enthusiastic reaction from both the cohosts and the studio audience.
“I think to prove a point, put him in the clink,” legal expert Sunny Hostin said, prompting Goldberg to ask where Trump should be imprisoned. Hostin quickly responded by suggesting Rikers Island, a controversial New York City prison, while Goldberg floated the idea of reopening San Francisco’s famed Alcatraz facility.
“That’s number one is Rikers. But, I’m okay if he goes to Alcatraz and they reopen it. You know, what about Guantanamo Bay?” Goldberg said as she turned to the audience, which collectively gasped when she brought up the military detention center that was previously investigated for reported torture techniques.
Ana Navarro joked that Guantanamo, located in Cuba, “would be close to [Trump’s] Mar-a-Lago,” meaning “Melania and come and visit” if he went there. Trump’s former communications staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin brought the conversation back to more serious matters, speculating that “even if he’s not convicted, this could resonate with women” and sway the upcoming presidential election.
After Hostin read a legal note that stressed Trump “pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records and has denied ever having an affair with Stormy Daniels,” Goldberg turned to the camera to deliver a final blow: “And that’s what you do. You deny, deny, deny, lie lie lie, deny, deny, deny!”
Although Goldberg typically avoids saying Trump’s name on “The View,” Entertainment Weekly notes that she broke her pledge in May when she made a rare Friday appearance on the show to discuss the former president’s 34 convictions from his hush money trial. “Do not adjust your TV set. Yes, I’m here on a Friday because this is a very unique moment in history. That’s why we’re all at the table,” Goldberg said. “I’m going to say something you’ve never ever heard me say before: Donald John Trump is a convicted felon.”
