Woody Harrelson recently shared a harrowing experience on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast. The actor, known for his roles in “Cheers” and “White Men Can’t Jump,” revealed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to the studio for an interview. Harrelson was accompanied by his longtime friend and “Cheers” co-star, Ted Danson.
The incident occurred when Harrelson attempted to pass a Tesla on the left. Unbeknownst to him, the Tesla was preparing to make a left turn. This miscalculation led to Harrelson being thrown over his handlebars and landing on the hood of the car. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet, which prevented any head injuries.
“A tumble is a fair term. I did go over my handlebars,” Harrelson recounted on the podcast. He admitted that he was embarrassed by the incident, explaining that he thought the Tesla was moving slowly for no reason. “I always feel like the shortest distance between two points in L.A. is a motorcycle. But today it proved not to be so very fast in terms of transporting,” he added.
Despite the accident, Harrelson managed to make it to the studio, albeit with a wound on his wrist. Danson, who once played a doctor on the soap opera “The Doctors,” took it upon himself to patch up his friend. “We’re in the bathroom and I was like, ‘You played a doctor right?’ and Ted said, ‘I also played a lawyer so we can sue the guy,’” Harrelson humorously recalled.
Danson cleaned and wrapped Harrelson’s wound, displaying a level of confidence and care that reassured his friend. “His confidence, his demeanor, everything about the way he does it makes you feel like you’re in the best hands. I never doubted him,” Harrelson said.
The accident caused a delay in the interview, but the friends took it in stride. “I am sad,” Danson admitted. “He could’ve been hurt badly. It does make me sad.” The duo was on the podcast to promote their new project, “Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (Sometimes),” which launched on June 12. The podcast, produced by SiriusXM’s Team Coco, features the two actors sitting down with special guests to delve into their lives beyond their career highlights.
Guests on the podcast include Eric Andre, Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Laura Dern, Jane Fonda, Simu Liu, Megan Mullally, Conan O’Brien, Nick Offerman, Martin Short, and Mary Steenburgen. “The best part about doing this podcast is that it’s given me an excuse to hang out with Ted,” Harrelson said in a statement. “Sure, we’ll talk with interesting guests, and sure we’ll share some laughs along the way, but the biggest win will be rekindling our romance, I mean friendship, after all this time. And I’m glad listeners will be able to join us for that.”
The podcast aims to go beyond the surface and explore the personal stories that shape its guests. Harrelson and Danson’s chemistry, honed over decades of friendship, promises to make each episode a unique and engaging experience.
Harrelson’s motorcycle accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life. Despite the scare, he remains in good spirits, thanks in no small part to Danson’s quick thinking and care. The incident has only strengthened their bond, adding another chapter to their long and storied friendship.
As they continue to promote their podcast, fans can look forward to more candid and heartfelt moments from the duo. Whether they’re reminiscing about their time on “Cheers” or exploring new topics with their guests, Harrelson and Danson are sure to bring their signature blend of humor and insight to every episode.
In the meantime, Harrelson’s motorcycle accident will likely become another memorable story in the annals of their friendship, a testament to their enduring connection and the adventures they continue to share.
