In a recent interview with producer and YouTuber Rick Beato, Malmsteen reflected on how recording music has evolved over the years. He shared that he used to dread studio sessions due to the pressure and limitations of the technology at the time. However, the advent of modern recording techniques has significantly enhanced his creative process.
Malmsteen revealed that in 1995, he invested in his own studio, allowing him the freedom to record whenever inspiration struck. This change was a game-changer for him, enabling a more spontaneous and creative workflow. He also mentioned his transition to using Pro Tools about 15 years ago, which further revolutionized his recording process.
Yngwie’s latest album, “Parabellum,” was released in July 2021 via Music Theories Recordings/Mascot Label Group. The album features a mix of instrumental tracks and songs with vocals, showcasing Malmsteen’s versatility as both a guitarist and a vocalist. The title “Parabellum” is Latin for “Prepare For War,” reflecting the album’s intense and powerful themes.
Over the years, Malmsteen has worked with some of the most renowned vocalists in the rock and metal genres. However, he now takes on much of the lead vocal duties himself, supported by a talented band that includes keyboardist Nick Marino, bassist Emilio Martinez, and drummer Brian Wilson.
Known for his towering wall of Marshall amplifiers, Malmsteen’s live performances are a sight to behold. He once joked that his Marshall stacks are so massive that they can be seen from the International Space Station, alongside the Great Wall of China.
As the tour dates approach, fans are eagerly anticipating the chance to witness Malmsteen’s guitar wizardry live. This 40th-anniversary tour is not just a celebration of his career but also a testament to his enduring influence in the world of rock and metal.
