This summer, a new docuseries titled “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” is set to unveil the intense journey of aspiring musicians aiming for stardom. The series, produced by K-pop powerhouse HYBE and Geffen Records, will provide an inside look at the creation of a girl group modeled after the rigorous K-pop training system.

KATSEYE is the name of the global girl group formed through this collaboration. After an overwhelming response of over 120,000 submissions from talented young women worldwide, the competition narrowed down to 20 contestants. These contestants showcased their skills on the audition program “The Debut: Dream Academy,” which aired for 12 weeks on platforms like YouTube, Weverse, and Abema TV.

Throughout the competition, the 20 young women engaged in various singing and dancing missions, receiving evaluations from a panel of industry experts and fan votes. The finale, held in Los Angeles, revealed the final six members of KATSEYE, who will now embark on their journey to fame.

The docuseries, set to premiere on August 21, 2024, will delve deeper into the lives of the 20 original contestants, exploring their experiences and the behind-the-scenes efforts that went into forming this unique girl group. Directed by the acclaimed Nadia Hallgren, known for her work on the Emmy-nominated documentary “Becoming,” the series promises to be an inspiring and insightful look at the making of a pop sensation.

The 20 aspiring stars competing for a spot in KATSEYE hail from diverse backgrounds and countries, including Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. Each contestant brings their unique talents and stories, contributing to the rich tapestry of the group.

The final lineup of KATSEYE consists of six members: Daniela, Manon, Lara, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae. Their first single, “Debut,” was released on June 28, and the group is set to launch their first EP, titled “SIS (Soft Is Strong),” on August 16.
