Kristen Bell recently opened up about the unusual way her husband, Dax Shepard, won her heart. The actress, who has been married to Shepard since 2013, shared the quirky story during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson.
Bell, 43, and Shepard, 49, first met in 2004 at a birthday party hosted by comedy film producer Shauna Robertson. At the time, Bell’s initial impression of Shepard was less than stellar. She found him overly chatty and felt no chemistry between them. Shepard, known for his role on “Punk’d,” was living with Robertson while his kitchen was being renovated, and both were invited to the intimate gathering at a sushi restaurant on Melrose.
Years later, their paths crossed again at a Detroit Red Wings hockey game. Bell had just ended a relationship and was ready to mingle. She spotted a mutual friend, Michael, at the game and decided to flirt with him. However, Michael was preoccupied, and Shepard seized the opportunity to approach Bell.
Bell recalled the moment vividly. She was chewing gum when Shepard asked if she had any more. When she coyly took the gum out of her mouth and said it was her last piece, Shepard boldly took it from her and put it in his mouth. This unexpected move left Bell smitten, and she realized Shepard was interested in her.
From that point on, Bell and Shepard began spending more time together. Despite a brief breakup initiated by Shepard, who felt things were moving too quickly, he soon realized his mistake. After going on a date with another woman, Shepard called Bell and asked for another chance. Since then, Bell has been continually impressed by Shepard’s depth, loyalty, and curiosity.
The couple married in 2013 and have two daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9. Bell praised Shepard for his protective nature, loyalty, and constant quest for knowledge. She described him as a wordsmith who is always challenging himself and seeking new perspectives.
Bell’s story highlights the unconventional and endearing way Shepard won her heart, proving that sometimes, the most unexpected gestures can lead to lasting love.
