Sara Ali Khan recently opened up about a challenging legal battle she faced during the filming of her debut movie, Kedarnath. The actress revealed that she was sued for Rs 5 crore by the film’s director, Abhishek Kapoor, due to scheduling conflicts that arose after she signed on for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba.
In an interview, Sara shared that the experience left her feeling “shattered” and unsure of how to handle the situation, especially since her mother and brother were not in the city to support her. The issue was eventually resolved when Rohit Shetty agreed to adjust the Simmba schedule, freeing up three days for Sara to dedicate to Kedarnath.
The legal troubles began when Abhishek Kapoor and KriArj Entertainment were already in a legal dispute, causing delays in Kedarnath’s production. During this period, Sara signed Simmba, which led to further complications. Sara attributed the scheduling conflicts to her management and mentioned that she had to send them to court on her behalf while she continued shooting.
Recalling the incident, Sara said, “In May 2018, I was supposed to do Simmba. Kedarnath was the first film I signed, Kedarnath was the first set I went on, Kedarnath was everything. Then some dates went upar-neeche, and I also signed Simmba. But now, there were three or four dates that were coinciding. And yeah, so I got sued for Rs 5 crore. I was very nervous because I didn’t have Rs 5 crore.”
She added that her grandfather was critically ill in Delhi, her mother was with him, and her brother was in school, leaving her to deal with the legal notice alone. Sara managed to keep the situation under control by maintaining a professional relationship with Abhishek Kapoor during the shoot.
Abhishek Kapoor also commented on the situation in an interview, explaining that Sara’s management had given her dates to another project, which was unacceptable to him. He had to take legal action to reclaim the dates needed to complete Kedarnath, even as they continued shooting important scenes together.
Ultimately, the matter was resolved when Rohit Shetty and Abhishek Kapoor met to discuss the issue. Sara humorously noted that Ranveer Singh made a brief appearance during their meeting, quickly leaving after saying, “Okay then.” The filmmakers agreed to adjust the schedules, allowing Sara to fulfill her commitments to both films.
Kedarnath was released in early December 2018, followed by Simmba at the end of the month. Despite the legal hurdles, both films were box office successes, marking a strong start to Sara Ali Khan’s career.
