Barcelona’s new head coach, Hansi Flick, has shared his vision for the team as he aims to lead them back to success. In an interview with Barça One, the club’s streaming platform, he outlined his plans for the upcoming season.
From the outset, Flick emphasized the importance of quality, intensity, and total concentration in gameplay. He wants the team to be dynamic, taking an active approach both with and without the ball. His aim is for opponents to be guided into positions that favor Barcelona, while his players give their all and enjoy holding possession.
Flick expressed a desire for his teams to apply pressure at the right moments, sometimes pushing higher up the pitch. When in possession, he believes players should embrace maximum freedom. He acknowledged Barcelona’s tradition of short, precise passing but made it clear that he wants the team to focus more on reaching the goal quickly and scoring more frequently.
On the defensive end, he stressed the importance of maintaining a compact team structure. He highlighted the need for a solid defensive midfielder and minimizing the space given to opponents.
In the initial days of training, physical conditioning has been a key focus for Flick. He remarked that the training methods differ significantly from what the players might be accustomed to and emphasized how essential physical fitness is as a foundation. He also pointed out that technical and tactical understanding must follow this physical preparation.
Flick was impressed by the talent of the young players at La Masia, the club’s famous youth academy, and he praised their development process. He noted that while a standout player who can win games is crucial, there is also great potential in the youth players who can be further developed.
Flick revealed that he had discussions with Thiago while he was at Liverpool about the possibility of joining his coaching staff, recognizing it as a valuable opportunity for learning. Thiago’s arrival has been welcomed, as he is well-liked and respected.
Regarding seasoned players, Flick remarked on Robert Lewandowski’s exceptional goal-scoring abilities, saying that his presence can greatly benefit younger players by providing them with guidance and experience.
As for the rivalry with Real Madrid, Flick acknowledged their strength, but he reminded everyone that it’s only two matches on a much larger calendar. Each game presents an opportunity for growth, and he is determined to approach every challenge meaningfully.
Flick concluded with the aspiration that Barcelona competes for every title, striving to perform at their best in each match and progressing as a team throughout the season.
