The Mexican TV presenter and actress Verónica Toussaint has passed away at the age of 48, as announced by her employer, Imagen Television, on its news program Imagen Noticias. The announcement was made by journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, who reported that Toussaint died after a long fight against cancer.
Leyva remembered Toussaint as a remarkable talent and a wonderful friend, colleague, and individual. He praised her as an exceptional woman whose contribution will be sorely missed.
The Mexican Academy of Film Arts and Sciences also expressed its sorrow over the loss of Toussaint. They posted a tribute on their X account (formerly Twitter), stating, “The light of your talent and smile will forever shine among us.” The Academy reminisced about Toussaint’s successful career, mentioning her 2018 Ariel Award win for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film “Oso Polar”. She also appeared in several other films including “Cosas imposibles”, “Cuernavaca”, “Conejo en la Luna”, and “Papá o mamá”, and had been working as a presenter for Imagen Noticias recently.
In 2021, Toussaint shared the news of her illness on the TV show “Qué Chulada”, where she was a presenter. She took that moment to urge her audience to “please, get checked every month.”
