Meghan Trainor recently opened up about a terrifying moment she experienced during an interview with Ryan Seacrest, where she believed she was having a miscarriage. The pop singer, known for her hit “All About That Bass,” shared the emotional ordeal on the June 6 episode of “Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals.”
Trainor, who was pregnant with her second child at the time, recounted the day she discovered she was expecting. “That morning, I was, like, stoked, beaming with joy, I videotaped it,” she said. “I did interviews, and they were like, ‘How are you?’ and I said, ‘I’m thriving.’ I was so happy.”
However, her joy quickly turned to fear. “Right before my last interview, I look down and I’m gushing blood,” she revealed. “I ruined a chair.” Despite the alarming situation, Trainor had to continue with her scheduled interview with Ryan Seacrest. “I go, ‘Oh no,’ and they’re like ‘Okay, Ryan Seacrest is on. Go!’” she recalled.
During the interview, Trainor struggled to keep her emotions in check. “I did that whole interview like, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry,’ and then got through it,” she said. “I shut the computer and was like, ‘Hey team, I think I’m miscarrying right now.’”
After the interview, Trainor went to the bathroom and saw what was happening. “I was like, alright, I had a baby this morning, and now they’re gone,” she said. Despite the bleeding, she decided to keep testing, and the pregnancy stick still showed a positive result.
Trainor then went for a blood test, which confirmed her pregnancy. “It’s like the number is zero if you’re not pregnant. My number was 90,000,” she explained. She later visited her doctor, who gave her surprising news. “At six weeks, I went in, and she goes, ‘Woah, that’s a 10-week-old baby.’ I was like, ‘I’ve been pregnant this whole time?!’ So I was pregnant ever since the [Jimmy] Fallon performance.”
The Fallon performance she referred to took place in October 2022, when she was promoting her new album “Takin’ It Back” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” That night, she performed her hit single, “Made You Look.” Reflecting on that time, Trainor said, “That day, I literally did a TikTok that was like, ‘When you get your period on Fallon…’ And that was me implanting. I was making life during my sound check at Fallon.”
Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, eventually welcomed their son Barry on July 1, 2023. The couple also has a 3-year-old son, Riley. Trainor shared the news of Barry’s birth on Instagram, posting a series of images of their newborn being held by various family members. “On July 1st (our 7-year anniversary of our first date) we welcomed Barry Bruce Trainor into the world,” she wrote. “He was a big boy at 8lbs 7oz…and sideways (transverse), but we had an amazing, successful c-section, and I finally got my skin-to-skin time! Thank you to all of the incredible doctors and nurses who took such great care of us.”
The experience was a rollercoaster of emotions for Trainor. “What a nightmare that was,” she said, reflecting on the ordeal. “Rollercoaster. Like, I told everyone in the household, ‘I’m pregnant!’ and then later, I was like, ‘I lost it.’ It was horrific, and then amazing.”
Implantation bleeding, which Trainor experienced, is common and is thought to happen when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. According to the Mayo Clinic, it usually occurs around the time you would expect to have a menstrual period and typically occurs about 10 to 14 days after conception.
Trainor’s story highlights the emotional and physical challenges many women face during pregnancy. Despite the scare, she and her family are now celebrating the arrival of their new addition.
