This revelation came to light during the trailer launch of “Jatt & Juliet 3” in Mumbai, where Diljit, along with co-stars Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, writer-director Jagdeep Sidhu, and the producers, shared some behind-the-scenes stories.
Diljit Dosanjh, now a global star known for his music and films, had a humble beginning in Punjab. While his music career has been stellar, it was his role in “Jatt & Juliet” that catapulted him to fame in the film industry. Although this movie wasn’t his debut, it significantly boosted his popularity and earnings.
During the media interaction, Diljit recounted how Darshan Grewal, the producer of “Jatt & Juliet,” approached him for the first installment. At that time, Diljit and Darshan were not on good terms, and Diljit intended to reject the offer. However, when they met, Darshan handed him a blank cheque and asked him to fill in any amount he desired, expressing his strong wish to work with Diljit.
Diljit was taken aback by this gesture and consulted his then-manager. They decided to ask for an amount equivalent to what Gurdas Maan, the highest-paid actor in Punjabi cinema at the time, was earning. To their surprise, Darshan agreed to the amount and even added an extra lakh to it, ensuring that Diljit would sign the film.
The shooting of “Jatt & Juliet” took place in Canada, and during the production, the producer ran out of funds. This led to the involvement of a second producer, and eventually, a third producer had to step in due to financial constraints. Despite these challenges, the film was completed and became a massive hit.
Diljit humorously shared that even after the success of the first film, Darshan came to him with another blank cheque for the sequel. This time, Diljit filled in an amount that no one in the industry had demanded before, thanks to Darshan’s unwavering support.
Neeru Bajwa, who has been a part of the “Jatt & Juliet” franchise from the beginning, also expressed her gratitude to the fans for their support throughout her career. She mentioned how the Punjabi audience has been progressive and supportive, allowing her to continue working in the industry even after getting married and having children.
