Jon Stewart made his much-anticipated return to The Daily Show on Monday night, but it seems the fast-paced schedule is taking a toll on him. Just days before, he had hosted the show on Thursday, and he humorously expressed his exhaustion during the Monday episode.
“I hosted on Thursday, and I’m back on Monday,” Stewart quipped. “I just don’t know how much longer I could do this — barely any rest. [I] just slept in a hyperbaric chamber all weekend.”
Stewart’s absence from the previous Monday’s show was due to his participation in the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles, where he also made an appearance at John Mulaney’s live show. In his absence, Jordan Klepper stepped in to host the Monday episode, allowing Stewart to take the Thursday slot.
Despite his lighthearted remarks about the demanding schedule, Stewart is set to expand his role with a new podcast from Comedy Central, titled The Weekly Show, which is scheduled to launch in June.
“After much reflection, meditation and prayer, I have decided to extend my work week to two days,” Stewart joked in a statement. “All hail Comedy Central!”
During Monday’s episode, Stewart tackled serious topics, including Senator Menendez’s corruption trial, shedding light on the pervasive corruption within Congress. His return to The Daily Show comes at a pivotal time, as the show gears up to cover the upcoming presidential election year, including both the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer.
The Daily Show is set to air a full week of shows from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee from July 15-18, followed by the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22. These episodes will air weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT, promising to deliver timely political commentary during a crucial election season.
As Stewart navigates his return to the show and prepares for additional responsibilities, fans are left wondering about the future of The Daily Show and the impact of Stewart’s unique brand of humor and insight on the political landscape.
Stewart’s commitment to addressing significant issues while balancing his new podcast and hosting duties reflects his dedication to engaging with current events. His return is not just a revival of his role but a reminder of the importance of satire in political discourse.
As the political climate heats up, viewers can expect Stewart to bring his signature wit and perspective to the forefront, making The Daily Show a must-watch for those seeking both entertainment and insight into the world of politics.
