On June 19, BLACKPINK’s Rosé took to social media to share her thoughts on her new journey with The Black Label. She began by addressing her fans’ curiosity, stating, “I know many of you have been curious about my news. As you know, I prefer to speak after everything is set. So, I wanted to make this announcement when everything was ready.”
Reflecting on her past year, Rosé revealed, “From last year to this year, I practically lived in the studio, taking time to figure out what I truly wanted to do.” After much contemplation, she decided to join The Black Label, a company led by producer Teddy. The Black Label officially announced her exclusive contract on June 18 KST.
Rosé expressed her excitement about the new chapter, saying, “I’m happy to officially work with The Black Label. It’s a company that can manage my career and help me achieve my dreams.” She hinted at exciting news to come, adding, “There will be an exciting announcement soon. I hope many of you will find my music interesting.”
Concluding her message, Rosé urged her fans, “Look forward to my upcoming music. This contract with The Black Label is just the first piece of a bigger picture. Please stay tuned for my future endeavors.”
The Black Label, an associate company of YG Entertainment, has been a significant part of Rosé’s musical journey. Founded by producer Teddy Park, the label has been instrumental in creating many of BLACKPINK’s hits. Teddy Park, who started his career in the hip-hop group 1TYM in the late 1990s, has produced numerous hits, including BLACKPINK’s “Whistle” and “Shut Down.”
As part of BLACKPINK, Rosé has already been on a musical journey with Teddy for nearly a decade. In the 2020 Netflix documentary “BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky,” Rosé introduced Teddy as “the fifth member” of the group. “He is the producer who listens to our stories, catches a new direction, and leads us in a good way,” she commented in the video.
In December, the four BLACKPINK members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — renewed their contracts with YG as a group. However, none of them extended their contracts as individuals. Jisoo teamed up with her brother to establish the new agency, BLISSOO. Jennie and Lisa also set up their own companies, named Odd Atelier (OA) and LLOUD, respectively. This strategic move is believed to give them more artistic freedom while pursuing their solo careers.
BLACKPINK recently wrapped up its second world tour, the largest-ever world tour for a K-pop girl group, drawing some 1.8 million concertgoers worldwide and earning an estimated $260 million gross. The quartet is going strong individually as well, with each member amassing more than 70 million followers on social media channels.
The decision to join The Black Label marks a significant step in Rosé’s career. The label currently represents notable artists such as Taeyang of BIGBANG, solo artist Jeon So-mi, and actor Park Bo-gum. With Rosé joining their ranks, fans are eagerly anticipating what new music and projects she will bring to the table.
Rosé’s move to The Black Label is seen as a strategic decision to gain more control over her career and artistic direction. The label, known for its innovative approach to music production and artist management, is expected to provide Rosé with the support and resources she needs to achieve her dreams.
As Rosé embarks on this new journey, fans are excited to see what the future holds for her. With her talent, dedication, and the support of The Black Label, there is no doubt that Rosé will continue to make waves in the music industry.
