Jimin, born Park Ji-min on October 13, 1995, in Busan, South Korea, is a renowned singer, songwriter, and dancer. He debuted as a member of BTS in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. Over the years, Jimin has released several solo tracks under BTS, including “Lie,” “Serendipity,” and “Filter,” all of which have charted on South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart. His first credited solo song, “Promise,” was released in 2018, followed by a duet with Ha Sung-woon for the TvN drama “Our Blues” in 2022. Jimin’s debut solo album, “Face,” released in 2023, achieved significant success, debuting at number one in South Korea and Japan, and number two in the United States. The album’s second single, “Like Crazy,” debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, making Jimin the highest-charting Korean solo artist in history on the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 at the time.

Jimin’s journey to stardom began in his hometown of Busan, where he attended Busan’s Hodong Elementary School and Yonsan Middle School. He later studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts, where he excelled in the modern dance department. A teacher’s suggestion led him to audition for Big Hit Entertainment, and after passing the auditions in 2012, he transferred to Korean Arts High School, graduating in 2014. Jimin furthered his education by graduating from Global Cyber University in 2020 with a major in Broadcasting and Entertainment and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University.

Jimin’s career with BTS has been marked by numerous achievements. He was the last trainee to join the lineup that would become BTS, debuting as a vocalist and dancer with the song “No More Dream” from their first single “2 Cool 4 Skool” in 2013. His solo songs “Lie,” “Serendipity,” and “Filter” have been praised for their unique styles and emotional depth. Jimin has also co-written and co-produced tracks like “Friends,” which was featured in the Marvel Studios film “Eternals.”

In addition to his musical accomplishments, Jimin has made significant contributions to the promotion of Korean culture. In 2018, he was awarded the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit alongside his bandmates. In 2021, he was appointed Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture by the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in.

Jimin’s solo work has also garnered attention. He collaborated with bandmate Jung Kook on a Korean rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe” in 2014 and a cover of Charlie Puth’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore” in 2017. His first solo song, “Promise,” released in 2018, set a record for the biggest 24-hour debut in SoundCloud history. Jimin’s second solo song, “Christmas Love,” was released in 2020, and he contributed the single “With You” to the soundtrack of the TvN drama “Our Blues” in 2022.

In 2023, Jimin co-wrote and featured on the single “Vibe” by Taeyang, marking his debut entry on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist. He was also announced as a global ambassador for Dior and Tiffany & Co. His debut solo album “Face” set several chart and sales records, with its singles “Set Me Free Pt. 2” and “Like Crazy” both entering the Hot 100. Jimin made history as the first South Korean solo artist to top the chart with “Like Crazy.”

Jimin’s impact extends beyond music. He has been recognized for his delicate and sweet vocals, exceptional dancing skills, and stage presence. He has cited singer Rain as an inspiration and has been praised for his smooth and elegant movements. Jimin’s influence is evident in the K-pop industry, with many idols citing him as a role model.

Jimin’s philanthropic efforts include supporting education and the arts. He has donated to various educational institutions and organizations, including covering uniform expenses for students at his alma mater and donating to the Busan Department of Education. In 2023, he donated to the Korean UNICEF Committee for emergency relief for children affected by the Turkey–Syria earthquake.

Jimin’s personal life has also been in the spotlight. He used to live with his bandmates in Hannam-dong, Seoul, and purchased a property in the area in 2021. He has faced health challenges, including neck and shoulder cramping during BTS’ Wings Tour in 2017 and undergoing appendicitis surgery in 2022.

In late 2023, Jimin enlisted as an active duty soldier to fulfill his mandatory military service obligations. He completed basic training in early 2024 and was assigned to an artillery unit.
