Carol Burnett, the legendary actress and comedian, has a unique way of ensuring her favorite drink is made just right. At a recent ceremony where Burnett, 91, was honored with her handprints and footprints outside the famous TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Laura Dern shared an interesting tidbit about Burnett’s go-to drink.
Dern revealed that Burnett has a special card she gives to bartenders, detailing the exact recipe for her signature cosmopolitan. “She has an incredible card that she gives to bartenders for the ‘Carol Burnett cosmopolitan,'” Dern said. The card even features a caricature of Burnett herself.
Television and film producer Jayme Lemons added that Burnett distributes these cards to all bartenders, ensuring her drink is made to perfection every time.
Inspired by Burnett’s drink card, Dern and Lemons created a similar card to inform Burnett about her upcoming honor at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Instead of the cosmopolitan recipe, the card featured an image of Burnett standing in front of the iconic Hollywood landmark. When they presented the card to Burnett, she was initially confused but then moved to tears upon realizing the honor.
The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Dick Van Dyke, who appeared alongside Burnett on “The Carol Burnett Show,” which ran for 11 seasons from 1967 to 1978. Other attendees included Bob Mackie, Allison Janney, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, Lisa Ann Walter, Bob Odenkirk, and Maya Rudolph. Jimmy Kimmel also spoke at the event, later expressing his gratitude on social media for the opportunity to honor Burnett.
