Doodles, the innovative entertainment company led by Pharrell Williams as chief branding officer, has officially launched Doodles Records in collaboration with Sony’s Orchard. This new venture marks a significant milestone for the company as it prepares to release its inaugural project, the soundtrack for the upcoming short film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.”
The launch of Doodles Records is celebrated with the release of a three-song EP that serves as the original soundtrack for “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.” This short film is set to debut later this year, and the EP will feature a lineup of exciting tracks. Among them is Coi Leray and Pharrell’s collaboration titled “Not in the Store,” which is scheduled for release in early August. Following that, fans can look forward to “Can’t Hold Me Down,” a track featuring Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, and Kyle Richh, set to drop in late August. The final track, “Doodleverse (Draw Me Closer),” will feature Swae Lee, Lil Yachty, and Pharrell, and is expected to be released in September.
Julian Holguin, CEO of Doodles, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “Music is and will continue to be a core pillar of Doodles, so we’re thrilled to announce the official formation of Doodles Records. Releasing music with some of the most legendary and relevant artists in the world on our first project is a dream come true and a massive source of pride. Moving forward, we will fuse music, animation, and technology to create groundbreaking content experiences that will empower artists and their communities.”
Each release from Doodles Records will be accompanied by animated videos, creatively directed by Burnt Toast, the founder of Doodles, in collaboration with the in-house animation studio, Golden Wolf. The short film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” is set to premiere in October, promising a unique blend of music and animation.
In addition to the label launch, Doodles has introduced DoodlesTV, a direct-to-community platform that offers fans early access to music releases, video premieres, and more. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase an all-access media pass for DoodlesTV season one next week, which will provide an early viewing of “Dullsville and the Doodleverse.”
Doodles is recognized as a next-generation art and entertainment company that focuses on immersive storytelling, live and digital experiences, and lifestyle content. Founded by renowned artist Scott Martin, also known as Burnt Toast, in 2021, Doodles has evolved from a simple concept into a vast universe of stories, products, and experiences. The company has successfully collaborated with global brands such as Adidas and Crocs and has developed engaging experiences like the Doodles experience at CAMP Chicago.
The upcoming animated film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” is being produced by Golden Wolf, the animation studio acquired by Doodles in January 2023. Directed by Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin, the film aims to create a groundbreaking animation and music experience. It will feature contributions from prominent musicians, including Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, and Coi Leray, who will not only lend their voices to the soundtrack but also voice characters in the film.
Lil Wayne will portray Captain Stoke, while Coi Leray will voice the character Deysi. The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September, following a promotional campaign titled “Project Gray,” which will kick off in early summer.
Julian Holguin reflected on the journey leading to the film’s release, noting, “Two years ago, we were in talks with the biggest animation studios in the industry to adapt our IP into a global entertainment franchise. After countless meetings, with offers on the table, we decided to pivot.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining creative control, which led Doodles to acquire Golden Wolf and develop the project internally.
Doodles initially launched as a 10,000 NFT project on Ethereum in 2021 and has since generated nearly $650 million in trading volume. The project has expanded to the Flow blockchain with the larger-scale Doodles 2 initiative, which includes avatar customization and gaming and metaverse integrations.
The launch of Doodles Records and the upcoming film “Dullsville and the Doodleverse” represent a pivotal moment for Doodles, showcasing the company’s commitment to exploring new creative avenues while leveraging its strong presence in the NFT and blockchain gaming industries. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, Doodles is poised to make a significant impact by merging music, animation, and technology in innovative ways.
With the involvement of high-profile artists and a focus on community engagement through platforms like DoodlesTV, the company is set to redefine the boundaries of entertainment. Fans can anticipate a unique experience that combines storytelling, music, and animation, all while fostering a sense of community among Doodles enthusiasts.
As the release dates for the EP and the short film approach, excitement is building within the Doodles community and beyond. The collaboration with renowned artists like Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, and Coi Leray not only elevates the project but also highlights Doodles’ ambition to create a vibrant and inclusive entertainment ecosystem.
In conclusion, Doodles Records is not just a new label; it represents a bold step into the future of entertainment, where music and animation converge to create captivating experiences. With a commitment to innovation and a roster of talented artists, Doodles is set to leave a lasting mark on the industry.
