Eight Dead in Floods and Landslides Due to Heavy Rains in the Philippines

At least eight people have lost their lives in the Philippines due to floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains and the impact of Typhoon Carina. Authorities confirmed this tragic news on Wednesday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) provided additional details in a statement on its website. Along with the fatalities, two other individuals have been reported injured, and one person is still missing. The disaster has affected approximately 883,000 residents.

The floods and landslides have also caused significant damage to infrastructure, impacting nearly 100 roads and 13 bridges. In total, 33 areas are experiencing power outages, while three others are facing disruptions in their water supply.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities have decided to suspend classes in the capital city of Manila. The NDRRMC has also warned that Typhoon Carina is intensifying as it moves toward Taiwan, which means regions in the Philippines can expect “heavy to intense rainfall” in the coming hours.
