The Energy Secretariat has initiated a process to update the Energy Subsidy Access Registry (RASE) through a detailed data review, aiming to minimize state spending on subsidies. This situation requires nearly two million residential users to re-register in order to continue receiving benefits.
According to Resolution 90/2024, published on June 5 in the Official Bulletin, approximately 1.7 million households that were automatically added to RASE since 2022 as low-income homes must now register individually within 60 days of the announcement. This means they have until early August to complete the process.
The Secretary, Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo, stated that after the given timeframe, any automatic registrations will be nullified, and those users who fail to individually register will lose their benefits.
Households are classified into three categories based on their income levels, as part of the subsidy segmentation established in 2022: high income (N1), low income (N2), and middle income (N3). The latest official data indicates that there are 5.3 million households in the N1 category, 8 million in N2, and 2.7 million in N3. The regulatory body for gas, Enargas, has more comprehensive data as the subsidy is allocated nationally, giving the government more tools to manage the program.
For those not completing the re-registration process, they will be classified as N1 and consequently lose their electricity subsidy. Economist Elena Alonso reminded her followers on social media that they have until August 2 to re-register. She warned that those without subsidies could see their electricity and gas bills increase by up to 257%.
Regarding the benefits available through RASE, N1 households do not receive any subsidies, while N2 households enjoy a 71.92% discount on electricity (for up to 350 kWh per month) and 64% on gas. For N3 households, the electricity discount can reach 56% (for up to 250 kWh) and 55% for gas.
To re-register for RASE and avoid losing electricity and gas subsidies, residential users must complete a sworn statement and update their information if necessary. It is essential to have the meter number, customer account number from electricity and gas bills, a current copy of the DNI, the CUIL number for each household member over 18, their income details, and an email address ready before starting the process.
The re-registration can be done online by completing the RASE form at www.argentina/gob/ar/subsidios or in person at ANSES offices with a prior appointment.
According to current regulations, households classified as N1 have monthly incomes of up to 3.5 times the basic basket cost. Starting in August, the threshold to qualify for subsidies will be set at a monthly family income of $3,056,092. For households located in certain regions, such as Patagones, Chubut, La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Santa Cruz, or Tierra del Fuego, the maximum allowable income will be $3,728,431 per month to not fall into the high-income category.
