In late 2023, two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone joined an exclusive club of “Saturday Night Live” hosts known as the “Five-Timers Club.” During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Stone shared a surprising revelation about her induction into this elite group.
Stone, who was promoting her new movie “Kinds of Kindness,” expressed her excitement about joining the Five-Timers Club, a milestone that comes with a special jacket adorned with the number “5.” However, she was taken aback to learn that the jacket is only for show and not for keeps. “That’s what’s so strange,” Stone told Fallon. “I don’t wanna blow up their spot because, again, it’s my favorite place, but they don’t want you to keep the jacket. It’s like, a thing!”
Determined to keep the jacket, Stone questioned the “SNL” staff about it and was met with a firm response. “They’re like, ‘You know you’re not keeping the jacket. You’re just wearing it for the monologue,'” she recounted. But Stone had other plans: “‘No. I’ll be taking it with me, I’ll be wearing it to [the] after-party, and I’ll be taking it home.'”
Stone revealed, with a giggle, that she did indeed take the jacket home. “And now, it’s in my closet! That’s right! But they also know where to find me.” She joked about the possibility of “SNL” head honcho Lorne Michaels wanting the jacket back.
Emma Stone’s induction into the Five-Timers Club was well-earned. Not only did she allegedly “steal” her jacket, but she also delivered a memorable monologue. For her fifth hosting gig, where she also promoted her Oscar-winning film “Poor Things,” Stone was joined onstage by fellow Five-Timers Tina Fey and Candice Bergen. They commemorated Stone’s entry into the group, noting that she is the youngest member at just 35 years old.
Bergen and Fey, wearing their jackets, welcomed Stone to the private women’s club they founded. “It’s got everything,” Bergen excitedly told Stone. “Showers, a locker room, a big portrait with the eyes cut out so Martin Short can peek in.” After receiving her jacket, Stone became visibly emotional. “This is amazing,” she beamed. “Honestly, this has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. And it means so much that I get to share this moment with you guys. So thank you.”
Stone’s induction into the Five-Timers Club is yet another feather in her cap. Ever since her breakout role in “Superbad,” Stone has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand and recognizable stars. Her career reached new heights in 2018 when she won her first Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “La La Land.” Alongside her “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” co-star Ryan Gosling, Stone played Mia, an aspiring actress struggling in Los Angeles. The film not only won her an Oscar but also became part of Oscar history due to the infamous mix-up with “Moonlight” for Best Picture.
Following her success in “La La Land,” Stone began collaborating with Greek writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos. In 2018, she starred in Lanthimos’ film “The Favourite,” and the two have since continued to work together. Their latest project, “Poor Things,” was crafted around Stone and earned her a second Oscar in just six years for her role as the reanimated Bella Baxter. Stone’s performance in the film, from her unique way of speaking to her stunning physicality, was widely praised.
Stone and Lanthimos’ new film “Kinds of Kindness” is currently in theaters, and they are already working on future projects together. It seems that Stone’s winning streak will continue, and she now has the Five-Timers Club jacket to add to her list of accomplishments.
