Exciting news for Disney+ subscribers and Star Wars enthusiasts! A brand-new live-action series from Lucasfilm, “The Acolyte,” has just premiered on Disney+. The series launched on June 4 with its first two episodes, promising a thrilling and suspenseful journey into the Star Wars universe.
“The Acolyte” delves into an investigation of a shocking crime spree that brings together a respected Jedi Master, played by Lee Jung-jae, and a dangerous warrior from his past, portrayed by Amandla Stenberg. As they uncover more clues, they find themselves on a dark path where sinister forces reveal that not everything is as it seems.
The series boasts an impressive cast, including Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Created by Leslye Headland, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef, “The Acolyte” is based on the Star Wars universe created by George Lucas.
Headland directed the premiere episodes, with other directors such as Kogonada, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Hanelle Culpepper taking on subsequent episodes. The series also features a score by award-winning composer Michael Abels, known for his work on “Get Out” and “Us.”
In addition to “The Acolyte,” Disney+ is celebrating the holiday season with a collection of beloved classics and new Originals. “The Naughty Nine,” streaming on November 23, tells the story of mischievous fifth grader Andy, who pulls together a team to execute an elaborate heist in Santa’s Village at the North Pole. “Christmas with Walt Disney,” streaming on November 24, offers a glimpse into Disney family home movies and holiday segments from Walt’s shorts and feature films.
“Doctor Who: The Star Beast,” premiering on November 25, reunites the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Temple-Noble as they face their most terrifying villain yet. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” streaming on December 1, brings back Harrison Ford as the legendary hero archaeologist for a globe-trotting adventure.
“The Shepherd,” streaming on December 1, follows a young RAF pilot in peril on Christmas Eve, while “Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder,” premiering on December 2, continues the Doctor’s journey. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever,” streaming on December 8, follows Greg Heffley as he navigates a stressful holiday season.
“Doctor Who: The Giggle,” premiering on December 9, concludes the Doctor’s journey with the Toymaker. “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” premiering on December 20, follows Percy Jackson on a dangerous quest to return Zeus’ master bolt and stop an all-out war. Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” Season 2 continues the journey through the vast multiverse, introducing new and familiar faces throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
