Jesse Plemons has long been compared to Matt Damon, with many fans and media outlets dubbing them celebrity lookalikes. Recently, Jesse addressed this ongoing comparison during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

On Tuesday, Jesse joined Jimmy Kimmel to discuss his latest film, Kinds of Kindness. Before diving into the interview, Jesse participated in a humorous skit where Guillermo, Jimmy’s sidekick, mistakenly locked him up, thinking he was Matt Damon.

As soon as Jesse took his seat, Jimmy couldn’t resist bringing up the topic of his resemblance to Matt Damon. Jesse shared that this comparison has been a part of his life for quite some time.

“It has somewhat been haunting me for a little while,” Jesse admitted. He recounted an incident from about a decade ago at the Toronto Film Festival, where he was mistaken for the famous actor.

“This woman asked me, ‘Are you Matt Damon?’ I said, ‘No, I’m sorry. I’m not.’ And she looked at me as if [she was thinking], ‘Wow, Matt Damon is a liar and an asshole.’ I felt bad,” Jesse shared, recalling the awkward encounter.

When asked if he personally sees the resemblance, Jesse responded, “It’s hard for me to say. Not really, no.” He then shared a story about his aunt, who, after watching the 1997 film Good Will Hunting, called his mother to comment on Matt Damon’s appearance.

“This is what Jesse is gonna look like when he gets older,” Jesse remembered his aunt telling his mom, referring to Matt’s look in the film.

The resemblance was significant enough that Jesse even portrayed Matt’s character, John Grady Cole, as a child in the 2000 film All the Pretty Horses. However, Jesse’s scenes were ultimately cut from the movie.

“I was supposed to be the very first scene of the movie. We sit down, and I’m not there, and I keep thinking, oh, well, you know [they] could have changed it in the edit. Sat through the whole thing, and I never showed up,” Jesse recounted.

Despite the initial setback, Jesse’s career has flourished. His breakout role on Friday Night Lights catapulted him into the spotlight, and he has continued to enjoy success. His latest project, Kinds of Kindness, showcases his talent across three different segments. Jesse’s performance even earned him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
