John Cena and Awkwafina’s Jackpot! Official Trailer Unveiled

Amazon MGM Studios has just released the official trailer for the highly anticipated action-comedy film “Jackpot!,” starring Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu. The movie is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 15.

“Jackpot!” is set in the year 2030 in California and follows the story of Katie, portrayed by Awkwafina. Katie is a Los Angeles transplant and an aspiring actor who unexpectedly wins a multi-billion dollar lottery prize. However, there’s a deadly twist: others can legally kill her before sundown to claim the jackpot for themselves.

As Katie finds herself the target of numerous pursuers, she teams up with Noel Cassidy, played by John Cena, an amateur lottery protection agent. Noel agrees to protect Katie until sundown in exchange for a share of the prize. Their mission is further complicated by Louis Lewis, a rival agent played by Simu Liu, who runs L.A.’s largest lottery protection agency and is also determined to secure Katie’s commission.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the high-octane action and comedy that “Jackpot!” promises. Set to the backdrop of Bonnie Tyler’s iconic song “Holding Out for a Hero,” the trailer showcases Katie and Noel’s frantic attempts to evade their pursuers. The action-packed scenes include car chases, daring escapes, and intense confrontations with Louis Lewis and his team.

Directed by Paul Feig, known for his work on “Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor,” “Jackpot!” features a talented supporting cast including Ayden Mayeri, Machine Gun Kelly, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, and Murray Hill. The screenplay is written by Rob Yescombe, with production handled by Roth/Kirschenbaum Films and Feigco Entertainment. The executive producers for the film include Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Paul Feig, Laura Fischer, John Cena, Michelle Morrissey, Rob Yescombe, and Zack Roth.

John Cena continues to solidify his status as Hollywood’s go-to action-comedy star with his role in “Jackpot!” The film follows Katie, who must survive until sunset to collect her winnings in a scenario reminiscent of “Squid Game” meets “The Purge.” As the whole world tries to murder her, Katie reluctantly joins forces with Noel Cassidy, who will do everything in his power to get her to sundown in exchange for a piece of her prize. However, Noel must also contend with his slick rival Louis Lewis, who is equally determined to collect Katie’s commission at all costs.

In addition to the film, “Jackpot!” is launching its own real-life lottery. One lucky winner will receive a 10-ounce gold bar, cash, and enough Buffalo Wild Wings for a decade, valued at over $35,000. For the official rules, visit TheJackpotJackpot.com.

While Paul Feig is at the helm of “Jackpot!,” fans of his previous work are still holding out hope for a sequel to “Bridesmaids.” Melissa McCarthy, a longtime collaborator of Feig, recently expressed her enthusiasm for a potential sequel, stating that she “would do a ‘Bridesmaids’ sequel this afternoon, right now.” McCarthy fondly recalled the magical experience of working with her co-stars Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rebel Wilson, and Ellie Kemper.

“Jackpot!” is set to premiere on August 15 on Prime Video. The trailer has already generated significant buzz, and fans are eagerly awaiting the film’s release to see the dynamic performances of Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu in this thrilling action-comedy.
