Lily Allen has revealed that she relies on her family to help with her laundry. The 39-year-old singer and actress admitted that she doesn’t know how to operate a washing machine, so she turns to her husband, David Harbour, and her daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, for assistance.
In the latest episode of her podcast “Miss Me?”, Lily shared, “Want to know a secret? I don’t know how to use the washing machine. I’m afraid of shrinking and dyeing my clothes, so I don’t do it. David and the kids handle the washing, while I do the ironing, but I don’t even like putting clothes in the dryer. It frightens me. The girls are very good at it. Ethel is especially skilled with the washing machine, but I have a fear of it. I don’t want to go near it.”
Lily, who shares her daughters with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, has previously noted that she believes having children negatively impacted her music career. She opened up on the Radio Times Podcast, saying, “My daughters ruined my career. I mean, I love them, and they complete me, but in terms of, you know, pop stardom, they completely ruined that.”
She expressed her frustration with the notion that mothers can “have it all” when balancing careers and family life. Lily commented, “It really annoys me when people say you can have it all because, frankly, you can’t. Some people choose their careers over their children, and that’s their prerogative. But, you know, my parents were quite absent when I was a child, and I feel that left some unpleasant scars that I’m not willing to repeat with my daughters. So, I chose to step back and focus on them, and I’m glad I did because I think they are pretty well-rounded individuals.”
