Lindsay Hubbard is embracing a new chapter in her life, one filled with joy and anticipation, as she prepares for motherhood. The “Summer House” star recently opened up about her pregnancy and her feelings towards her ex-fiancé, Carl Radke, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
Lindsay, 37, is over the moon about her pregnancy, which she announced on the Fourth of July. The baby is expected to arrive later this holiday season. Reflecting on her journey, Lindsay shared, “It’s just so clear to me that the universe had a plan. I feel like my prayers were answered.”
Despite her past relationship with Carl, Lindsay is focused on her present and future. She is currently in a loving relationship with a new partner, a doctor specializing in biotech investing, whose identity she has chosen to keep private. “That relationship is in my past, and I can’t really focus on my past anymore because I’m so focused on my present and my future,” Lindsay emphasized. “And to be honest, his emotions are no longer my responsibility. It’s just not my problem anymore.”
Lindsay’s pregnancy will be featured in the upcoming season 9 of the Bravo reality show. She remains calm and composed, attributing her demeanor during the recent Summer House season 8 reunion to her pregnancy and her determination to prioritize what matters most to her now. “In the back of my mind, the whole time I was thinking, ‘Let me just get through this, and then I can focus on the important things that matter to me right now’ — which certainly wasn’t all that,” she shared.
As she looks forward to the coming months, Lindsay is eagerly preparing for motherhood. She is busy planning baby showers, decorating the nursery, and selecting a name with her partner. “We’re not telling anyone what we’re having yet, but the second we found out we were like, ‘Okay, let’s talk about names,'” Lindsay revealed. “We already have one in mind, but we’ll see if it sticks as the months go on.”
Lindsay expressed her excitement about sharing her journey publicly and celebrating with loved ones. “I’m just excited to actually be able to talk about it publicly now and share in the celebration with our friends,” she said. “I’m a very ‘scream from the rooftops’ kind of girl. I’m just ready to let it all out now.”
In an Instagram post following her announcement, Lindsay expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support: “Our little cub is already so so loved! Thank you for all of the sweet comments, love, and support! We are truly over the moon right now!”
Carl Radke, on the other hand, has been reflecting on his journey to sobriety. During the “Summer House” reunion, Carl shared his progress and the impact of his brother Curtis’s death from a drug overdose in August 2020. “I feel really good,” Carl, 36, told his co-stars. “I mean, five years on TV, you guys have seen me up and down, but I think where I’m sitting now is the best place I’ve ever been, so I’m happy to be here.”
Carl proudly stated he was 92 days sober at the time of filming the reunion. He reflected on the wake-up call his brother’s death provided, saying, “This was a path my brother went down, and clearly the path I’ve been choosing can sometimes lead me down that way. I can’t live like that.”
Lindsay revealed that fellow Bravolebrity Captain Lee Rosbach from “Below Deck” reached out to Carl after Curtis’s death, as Rosbach had experienced a similar loss with his son. “It was, like, the most beautiful, sweet thing — this connection through traumatic experience,” Lindsay said.
For Carl, sobriety was something he considered even before his brother’s passing. “It’s a blessing in disguise that I had done the work I had done leading up to this past summer,” he said. “I think had I been in the place I was previous summers when I got that news, I don’t think I would be here right now. Not kidding.”
Carl also thanked his co-star Kyle Cooke for supporting him during a dark period. “Kyle came over my apartment and I didn’t know he knew I had been messed up for a couple of days — well, a couple of months after that. He came over to my apartment and he told me he loved me,” Carl said through tears. “When you lose your brother and you don’t have that, like, male influence that you wanted for so long, Kyle’s been my brother, man.”
Lindsay, meanwhile, is uninterested in Carl’s reaction to her pregnancy. “That relationship is in my past, and I can’t really focus on my past anymore because I’m so focused on my present and my future,” she reiterated. She guessed that Carl would find out about her exciting news with “the rest of the world” because she wasn’t “calling him up and having a conversation with him” about it.
Lindsay surprised fans on July 4 when she announced she and her mystery boyfriend were expecting their first child together after less than a year of dating. “I truly believe the universe has a bigger plan and this is it! 💫,” she wrote alongside several Instagram photos that showed off her growing baby bump. “My boyfriend and I are beyond excited to welcome our little #HubbCub this Holiday season 2024!!”
In another chat published by People, Lindsay admitted the pregnancy was not planned. “It was a surprise and a shock at first because we were not trying or even planning, but we had some honest conversations and it just felt so right for both of us,” she reflected. “We have a very loving, caring and healthy relationship. I finally feel like I met my match with him.”
Lindsay and her partner are both thrilled about the surprise pregnancy. “He’s just so excited to be a dad and proud to be having a child with me,” she raved. “It just means the world to have someone like him by my side.”
Lindsay and Carl had a fling in the early seasons of “Summer House” but did not make things official until 2021. He popped the question in August 2022, but they split the following year.
