Lisa Kudrow ‘got annoyed’ when the ‘Friends’ studio audience laughed too much

Lisa Kudrow felt “irritated” when the studio audience laughed for too long during recordings of ‘Friends.’ The 60-year-old actress portrayed Phoebe Buffay on the iconic NBC sitcom. Recently, her co-star Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, mentioned that Lisa “hated” the live audience attending the Los Angeles recordings. However, Lisa clarified that wasn’t entirely accurate.

In a conversation with ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ Lisa explained, “No, that wasn’t exactly true. No, I got irritated when they laughed for too long.”

‘Friends,’ which aired for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004, generated nearly $1.5 billion in revenue. Jennifer also reminisced about the premiere day of the first episode. Alongside Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing and sadly passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54, Jennifer pulled a prank on Lisa. At that time, Lisa was in a nearby hair salon getting her hair dyed.

During an interview on the ‘Actors on Actors’ series by Variety with Quinta Brunson from ‘Abbott Elementary,’ Jennifer shared, “Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere and knew Lisa was at the salon. So, we went into the salon, and I sneaked up on her (as she was at the sink), took the nozzle from the guy who was supposed to be dyeing her hair, and started washing her hair. It definitely got out of control, and that was unfortunate. But the excitement we felt, it feels like it was yesterday!”

In her recent interview, Lisa confirmed this prank did occur and suggested it was because Jennifer and Matthew were simply eager to celebrate their new project together. She said, “Yes, that really happened. I think they were just very excited because something had happened. We heard we were chosen or that… something had happened. They couldn’t stand that we weren’t all together, so they came to where I was getting my hair done, and yes, I think Jen washed my hair! It was exciting.”

This lighthearted moment from their early days on ‘Friends’ reflects the strong bond the cast developed while making the beloved series. Their shared experiences often bring laughter and nostalgia, showcasing the true essence of friendship that the show represented.
