Man Found Dead in San Juan: Dogs Had Devoured Part of His Body

Authorities discovered the lifeless body of 58-year-old Alejandro Elizondo after his neighbors raised concerns about his absence. It had been at least three days since anyone had seen him leave his home in San Juan. His brother, Oscar Elizondo, a psychiatric patient, believed Alejandro was simply sleeping and didn’t want to leave his room. However, what law enforcement found was shocking: the family dogs had begun to consume parts of Alejandro’s body.

The grim discovery occurred at a residence on Formosa Street, in the UTA neighborhood of San Juan. Police from the 28th precinct received a call from a worried neighbor who had not seen Alejandro for several days. Concerned about his well-being, they decided to investigate.

Prior to the police arrival, neighbors had approached Oscar, inquiring about Alejandro’s health. He mentioned that Alejandro had recently undergone heart surgery to insert stents, but claimed he was just sleeping or choosing to stay locked away. Both brothers battled psychological issues and were receiving occasional support from neighbors, although Alejandro was more socially engaged than Oscar.

Neighbors grew increasingly uneasy about Oscar’s unwillingness to let them check on Alejandro, leading them to call the police. Upon their arrival, Oscar repeated that Alejandro was in his room. However, they were unprepared for the horrific scene that awaited them: Alejandro was found dead on the floor, showing signs that his dogs had attacked him after he had already passed away.

Reports from Radio Popular San Luis indicate that when police entered Alejandro’s room, they found him on the bed, with the dogs gathered around. It was evident that the brothers lived in squalid conditions, largely neglected by family and reliant on neighbors for assistance.

The investigation into Elizondo’s death was conducted by Assistant Prosecutor Francisco Nicolía and a team from UFI Delitos Especiales. They searched the home for evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. The remains were moved to the Judicial Morgue for further analysis to understand what transpired in the moments leading up to his passing.

According to Tiempo de San Juan, autopsy results were submitted to the prosecutor, confirming that Alejandro’s death was due to natural causes. There was no evidence of an attack by the dogs; instead, they began to feed on his body after he had died.

Meanwhile, questions remain about the future of Oscar Elizondo, who was under his brother’s care and may not be capable of taking care of himself. His fate will be decided by the Minors’ Advisory Board and the Family Court, which will determine whether he will be placed in an institution or under the care of a guardian.

Currently, Oscar is under the temporary care of a family friend willing to help. Unfortunately, relatives who came forward after Alejandro’s tragic death refused to take responsibility for him. The dogs have been handed over to an animal rescue organization, while the house remains secured by authorities.
