A threatening message allegedly from the Northeast Cartel has surfaced in the municipality of Galeana, Nuevo León. In this message, the criminal group addresses other crime organizations, including the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
On July 22, images of the message spread on social media, indicating that the Northeast Cartel had made its presence known in the area. The design of this message closely resembles others discovered in Nuevo León on July 16.
The newly found material mentions that the group aims to “clean” the area of other criminal cells and includes threats directed at authorities purportedly associated with these gangs.
The message from the Northeast Cartel states, “People of Galeana, we have arrived in this municipality, just so you know, we the Northeast Cartel are not here to mess with innocent people… we have come to eliminate all the rats, like the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco Cartel, the Gulf Cartel, and independents.”
It’s important to note that this recent threatening message is similar to those found in three municipalities in Nuevo León, all of which also referenced the Northeast Cartel. These previous messages were reportedly signed by Los Chukys, identified as an armed wing of the Northeast Cartel.
In mid-July, messages were discovered in the municipalities of Juárez, Guadalupe, and Santa Catarina. In these, the message stated, “We don’t want problems with the government, but if you don’t understand the easy way, it will be the hard way.” The only variations in the three messages were the locations mentioned.
The message found in Galeana ends with a stern warning: “I hope it is clear that we are not playing,” without any mention of Los Chukys this time.
This increase in threatening messages comes despite the arrival of 300 troops from the Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena) aimed at bolstering security in the region. On the same day, another message, allegedly from the Sinaloa Cartel, was found in Doctor Arroyo, near human remains, containing the signature “La Chapiza CDS,” linking it to the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by the sons of Joaquín Guzmán.
Nuevo León has registered the presence of various crime organizations across 51 municipalities. Data from AC Consultores, updated until January 2023, indicates that at least seven criminal groups operate within the state.
The Gulf Cartel is the largest national group operating in Nuevo León, present in seven municipalities, while the Sinaloa Cartel is active in six. The Northeast Cartel operates in four, and another minor cartel is active in three municipalities.
In addition to these national organizations, several local bands exist, including the group known as Los Billys or the Independent Cartel of Nuevo León, which operates in nine municipalities, surpassing the Gulf Cartel. A splinter group from the Beltrán Leyva organization, known as Los Meza Flores, operates in just one municipality.
There’s also a cell known as La Banda de la Explorer, involved in drug trafficking and vehicle theft, active in four municipalities of Nuevo León.
