Pat Sajak Stars in Hawaii Theatre’s Prescription Murder

Pat Sajak, the iconic host of “Wheel of Fortune,” is set to embark on a new adventure in the world of theater. After more than four decades of spinning the wheel, Sajak will star in the Hawaii Theatre’s production of “Prescription: Murder” in 2025. This stage play, which inspired the TV series “Columbo,” will see Sajak stepping into the role of Dr. Roy Flemming, a brilliant psychiatrist with a dark plan.

Sajak’s final episode as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” airs this Friday, marking the end of an era. However, fans won’t have to wait long to see him in a new role. Tickets are already on sale for the play, which will run from July 31 to August 10, 2025, at the Hawaii Theatre in downtown Honolulu.

In “Prescription: Murder,” Sajak will portray Dr. Roy Flemming, who, along with his mistress, played by Therese Olival, concocts a scheme to murder his neurotic and possessive wife, portrayed by Amy K. Sullivan. The plot hinges on a bizarre impersonation to create the perfect alibi. Joe Moore, a longtime friend of Sajak and a KHON-TV news anchor, will play Lt. Columbo, the detective who engages in a cat-and-mouse game with the psychiatrist.

This production marks the ninth collaboration between Sajak and Moore, who first co-starred in Moore’s original play “Prophecy and Honor” in 1993. Their partnership has spanned several successful productions, including “The Odd Couple,” “The Honeymooners,” and “Dial M for Murder.” Most of these performances have taken place at the Hawaii Theatre, with one notable exception being their 2012 performance of “The Odd Couple” at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre.

Directed by Rob Duval, the cast of “Prescription: Murder” also includes Moore’s son, Bryce Moore, as the Assistant District Attorney, and Aiko Chinen. The play promises to be a thrilling experience, with a surprising climax that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

The Hawaii Theatre Center, a non-profit organization, will benefit from the net proceeds of the show. VIP tickets, priced at $75, offer a meet-and-greet photo opportunity with the stars and an autographed playbill, making it a memorable experience for fans.

Sajak’s transition from game show host to stage actor is a testament to his versatility and passion for the arts. His departure from “Wheel of Fortune” was announced in June 2023, and his final episode will air on June 7. In a heartfelt message to viewers, Sajak expressed his gratitude for their support over the years, highlighting the show’s role in bringing families together.

Sajak’s collaboration with Moore dates back to their time serving at the American Forces Vietnam Network in Saigon in 1968. Their enduring friendship and professional partnership have resulted in numerous successful theatrical productions, and “Prescription: Murder” is set to be another highlight in their storied careers.

As Sajak steps into this new role, fans can look forward to seeing a different side of the beloved TV personality. His portrayal of Dr. Roy Flemming in “Prescription: Murder” promises to be a captivating performance, showcasing his talent and dedication to the craft of acting.

Tickets for “Prescription: Murder” are available now, and the anticipation is building for what promises to be a standout production at the Hawaii Theatre. With a stellar cast and a gripping storyline, this play is set to be a must-see event in 2025.
