‘Space Cadet’ Premieres This Week on Prime Video: Stream Emma Roberts’ Movie Free

Emma Roberts, Tom Hopper, and Poppy Liu star in the new original rom-com “Space Cadet,” premiering Thursday, July 4, on Prime Video. This highly anticipated film follows the story of Tiffany “Rex” Simpson, a carefree partygoer with dreams of traveling to space. Despite facing numerous setbacks, Rex’s journey to NASA training is filled with humor, determination, and a touch of romance.

In an interview with AP, Emma Roberts described the movie as nostalgic, reminiscent of early 2000s rom-coms, yet fresh and fun. Directed and written by Liz W. Garcia, known for her work on “The Life Guard,” “Space Cadet” is produced by Greg Silverman and Jon Berg. The film’s executive producers include Michael Tadross, Chris Bosco, Liz W. Garcia, Gideon Yu, Jaeson Ma, and Emma Roberts herself.

The cast of “Space Cadet” is star-studded, featuring Tom Hopper, Poppy Liu, Gabrielle Union, Kuhoo Verma, Desi Lydic, Sebastián Yatra, Yasha Jackson, Andrew Call, Troy Iwata, Josephine Huang, Dave Foley, Sam Robards, and Joshua Harto. The film centers on Rex, a college student who, with the help of her best friend Nadine (played by Poppy Liu), manages to get accepted into NASA’s highly competitive astronaut training program.

Rex’s journey is anything but smooth. She relies on her quick wits and determination to navigate the challenges of the program. Music plays a significant role in her story, with a playlist called “Brains & Butts” helping her stay motivated during workouts. Curated by Emma Roberts and Liz W. Garcia, the playlist features upbeat and inspiring tracks from artists like Beyoncé and Outkast, and is available for streaming on Spotify.

In a conversation with For the Record, Liz and Emma discussed their creative processes and the importance of a good movie soundtrack. Emma shared that music helps her get into character, while Liz explained that she often creates playlists to set the mood while writing. The playlist for “Space Cadet” is designed to reflect Rex’s personality and her journey to becoming an astronaut.

When asked to pick an anthem for Rex, Emma chose “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson, highlighting the character’s resilience and determination. Liz emphasized that the soundtrack helps express the movie’s main themes, making the writing process more enjoyable and immersive.

“Space Cadet” is a story about being true to oneself and following one’s dreams. Liz, as a female filmmaker, shared her perspective on the importance of pursuing one’s passions despite the challenges. She hopes the film will inspire audiences to bet on themselves and not give up on their dreams.

Emma and Liz also shared some of their favorite movie soundtracks. Emma mentioned “Legally Blonde” and “Practical Magic” as her top picks, while Liz highlighted “Love & Basketball,” “Rushmore,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The Piano,” and “Spanking the Monkey.”
