Vertical Acquires Rights to Michael Angarano’s All-Star Road Trip Comedy

Vertical has secured the North American theatrical distribution rights for Michael Angarano’s highly anticipated road trip comedy, “Sacramento,” following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film, which also stars Michael Cera, Kristen Stewart, and Maya Erskine, will be distributed by Vertical in the UK and Ireland as well. The release is expected later this year.

Michael Angarano, who directed and co-wrote the film, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Vertical. “Sacramento was a unique filmmaking experience,” Angarano said. “Every crew member believed in the movie and had fun making it, which is all you can hope for as a filmmaker. It’s a very personal film for me, and I’m grateful to have a home like Vertical.”

The film follows Rickey, an energetic and free-spirited young man with a Peter Pan complex. After the death of his father, Rickey convinces his long-time friend Glenn to take a break from his blissful domestic life and join him on an impromptu road trip across California. Angarano plays Rickey, while Michael Cera portrays Glenn. Kristen Stewart and Maya Erskine also star in the film, along with AJ Mendez, Iman Karram, and Rosalind Chao.

Angarano co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Smith, and the film is produced by Angarano, Smith, and Sam Grey, along with Oakhurst Entertainment and Lighthouse Management & Media. The film’s production team also includes Bee-Hive Productions’ Stephen Braun, the Wonder Company’s Chris Abernathy and Eric B. Fleischman, and associate producer Irfan Siddiqui.

Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey praised Angarano’s talent and the film’s unique qualities. “It’s hard to imagine when Michael found time to sleep, but his incredible talent has produced a hilarious and poignant film that we can’t wait to share with audiences later this year,” Jarowey said. “We’re also thrilled to continue our collaboration with Eric, Stephen, and Chris on this project and look forward to many more successful ventures together.”

The deal was negotiated by Jarowey and SVP of Acquisitions Tony Piantedosi on behalf of Vertical, with Verve Ventures and UTA’s Independent Film Group representing the production.

The acquisition of “Sacramento” by Vertical marks another significant step for the distributor, which has been steadily building its reputation in the independent film industry. Vertical has previously acquired films like the supernatural horror pic “The Damned” and has been praised for its ability to champion unique and compelling stories.

As the film gears up for its theatrical release, audiences can look forward to a heartfelt and entertaining journey across California, brought to life by a talented cast and crew. With Vertical’s support, “Sacramento” is poised to make a significant impact on the indie film scene.
