Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are known for their playful and loving relationship, but recently, Peta has taken their bond to a new level. As she nears the end of her pregnancy, Peta has been strapping watermelons to Maksim’s body to give him a taste of what she’s experiencing.
In a candid chat with Page Six at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards, Maksim, 44, shared that Peta, who is 36 weeks pregnant with their third child, has been making him wear watermelons to simulate her pregnancy weight. This quirky exercise began with a joint Instagram video where Peta wrapped a watermelon around Maksim’s belly using plastic wrap.
Maksim revealed that this wasn’t a one-time event. Peta has made him repeat the experience twice more, adding oranges to his chest for added realism. She even devised a series of tasks for him to perform while wearing the weighted fruit, such as picking up a pen, putting on shoes, and getting their baby out of the crib—all while feeling the pressure on his diaphragm.
Maksim admitted that the experience was eye-opening and incredibly challenging. He expressed his amazement at how Peta manages daily activities while carrying such weight. In the Instagram video, Maksim attempted to dance with the watermelon strapped to him, while Peta watched and enjoyed a bag of chips. He humorously noted that his diaphragm was not pleased with the ordeal.
The couple, who already have two sons, Shai, 7, and Rio, almost 1, announced their third pregnancy in February, just seven months after welcoming Rio. Maksim shared that while he is excited about their growing family, he is also looking forward to the end of the pregnancy so they can resume their normal activities.
Maksim’s candidness about the challenges of pregnancy and his playful participation in Peta’s watermelon experiment highlight the couple’s strong bond and sense of humor.
