Jason Reitman assures fans more Ghostbusters on the way with many stories to tell

During this year’s Ghostbusters Day, a special screening of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” took place at the Sony Pictures Studio lot. Among the attendees was Jason Reitman, the film’s co-writer and director of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”

Reitman expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating, “Ghostbusters Day is my new favorite day of the year, and it’s all because of you. It’s been forty years, and your dedication is incredible. Seeing so many people in flight suits and Ecto-1s in the parking lot is amazing.”

Reflecting on the anniversary of the original film’s release, Reitman fondly remembered his father, Ivan, who directed the original movie and its 1989 sequel. “I wish my father could see this. It would have moved him deeply. He lived for storytelling and making people laugh. Seeing everyone here today, I can feel him smiling,” he shared.

Although this year’s Ghostbusters Day was more subdued compared to previous years, Reitman assured fans that the franchise has a bright future. “I’m incredibly proud of ‘Frozen Empire’ and to be part of the Ghostbusters family. We have many more stories to tell, and we’re working on them,” he revealed.

The next major project on the horizon is the franchise’s return to animation, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and set to premiere on Netflix. Both Reitman and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” director Gil Kenan will serve as executive producers. Kenan previously teased, “I just watched an entire art presentation for the show. The sets, environments, and supernatural characters are coming to life thanks to our brilliant creative team. The work is in full development, with scripts being written and art being created. It’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”

Fans can look forward to more updates on the upcoming animated series, which promises to expand the Ghostbusters universe in exciting new ways.
