EXCLUSIVE: Jordan Weiss and Michelle Nader, known for their collaboration on Hulu’s Dollface, have successfully sold a romantic comedy pitch to New Line Cinema, sources reveal to Deadline.
The film, which remains untitled, is set against the exciting backdrop of the NFL playoffs. It will follow the story of two seasoned “players” in the dating world, who usually prefer younger partners, but find themselves unexpectedly matched with each other.
Weiss and Nader bring their expertise to this new project after working together on two seasons of Dollface, a series produced by LuckyChap and starring Kat Dennings, Brenda Song, Shay Mitchell, and Esther Povitsky. Weiss created the show, while Nader served as the executive producer.
This new deal further strengthens Weiss’ relationship with New Line Cinema. The studio is set to release her directorial debut, Sweethearts, on Max this fall. Weiss not only directed but also co-wrote and executive produced the film, which features Kiernan Shipka, Jake Bongiovi, and Charlie Hall. Additionally, she is currently working with New Line as the writer for their adaptation of Curtis Sittenfeld’s novel Romantic Comedy, a project also produced by Hello Sunshine.
Weiss, who created and executive produced Dollface at the young age of 26, has been making waves in the industry. Dollface follows a young woman trying to reconnect with her friends after a breakup with her long-term boyfriend. Recently, Weiss was chosen to write the much-anticipated Freaky Friday 2, which is set to begin production this summer with Nisha Ganatra directing.
Meanwhile, Michelle Nader is currently the showrunner and executive producer of the comedy series Deli Boys for Hulu and Onyx Collective. Nader has an impressive resume, having also served as an executive producer on the Kat Dennings-led series 2 Broke Girls. Her other notable TV credits include creating the U.S. version of the Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, as well as working on The King of Queens and Spin City.
Weiss is represented by UTA, Mosaic, and Felker Toczek Suddleson, while Nader is represented by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
The collaboration between Weiss and Nader on this new romantic comedy promises to bring a fresh and engaging story to the big screen, leveraging their combined experience and creative talents.
