Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets No. 1 for Eighth Week on Billboard 200

Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” continues its reign atop the Billboard 200 chart for an impressive eighth consecutive week. The album garnered 128,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending June 13, according to Luminate, marking a 14% decline from the previous week.

This achievement makes “The Tortured Poets Department” the first album to spend its initial eight weeks at No. 1 since Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” which led for its first 12 weeks in 2023. Among Swift’s 14 No. 1 albums, “The Tortured Poets Department” ties with “Folklore” for the second-most weeks at the top, trailing only “1989” and “Fearless,” each with 11 weeks.

Swift now extends her record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 among solo artists, with a total of 77 weeks. Elvis Presley holds the second spot with 67 weeks. This total includes all 14 of her chart-topping albums, tying her with Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums among solo artists.

In the latest Billboard 200 top 10, Charli XCX achieves her highest-charting album to date with “Brat,” debuting at No. 3. Bon Jovi secures its 14th top 10 album with “Forever” at No. 5, and Chappell Roan enters the top 10 for the first time with “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” at No. 10.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand streams generated by songs from an album. The new June 22, 2024-dated chart will be available on Billboard’s website on June 18.

Of the 128,000 equivalent album units for “The Tortured Poets Department,” SEA units make up 104,000, equating to 135.53 million on-demand streams of the deluxe edition’s 31 songs. Album sales account for 23,000 units, and TEA units comprise 1,000.

Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” rises to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in its fourth week, matching its debut peak with 106,000 equivalent album units. Charli XCX’s “Brat” debuts at No. 3 with 82,000 equivalent album units, marking her best week by units. The album’s first-week sales were bolstered by 14 vinyl variants and various deluxe editions.

Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” remains steady at No. 4 with 72,000 equivalent album units. Bon Jovi’s “Forever” debuts at No. 5 with 52,000 equivalent album units, supported by multiple vinyl and CD editions.

ATEEZ’s “Golden Hour: Part.1” falls to No. 6 in its second week, while Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” slips to No. 7. Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” dips to No. 8, and Shaboozey’s “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going” falls to No. 9. Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” rounds out the top 10.

The album’s rise in the charts was fueled by recent press coverage and a notable performance at the 2024 Governor’s Ball, which garnered attention from Ariana Grande. “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” reaches the top 10 in its 12th week on the chart, a rare feat for a current album.
