The bodies of two Georgia firefighters who disappeared late last month were located in Tennessee, police said. The Hinesville Police Department announced on Sunday that authorities found Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander in Cocke County, Tennessee. In addition to the remains, police said Anderson’s vehicle was also found.
According to local news, the duo was last seen at Liberty County Fire Services on June 25 in Georgia. “Liberty County Fire Services is deeply saddened to receive the news regarding Lt. Raegan Anderson and Senior Firefighter Chandler Kuhbander,” Fire Chief Brian Darby said in a statement. “These two extremely dedicated employees put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County. Our prayers, and those of the department, are with the families during this difficult time.”
Before their bodies were found, authorities released a missing flyer that said that Anderson and Kuhbander were traveling in a 2017 Ford Focus with a dark tint, smoke-out tail lights, and a Georgia license plate. WTOC reported that Anderson and Kuhbander were once romantically involved. On June 22, days before they went missing, there was an incident at an Olive Garden. According to a police report obtained by the outlet, Anderson went into the restaurant and saw Kuhbander on a date. “Ms. Anderson caused a disturbance with Mr. Kuhbander, and she walked outside and keyed his vehicle,” the report said.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are leading the probe in this case and are working to determine the circumstances leading to their death. The sheriff’s office and the TBI did not identify the firefighters by name. “Their bodies have been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death,” the agency said in a statement to USA TODAY. “Additional information will be provided once the individuals have been positively identified. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.”
The bodies of two firefighters from Liberty County, just south of Savannah, were found in Tennessee on Sunday, just five days after they were reported missing. The Hinesville Police Department confirmed they were the bodies of Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander. Tennessee authorities in Cocke County found the bodies of Raegan Anderson, Chandler Kuhbander as well as Anderson’s missing vehicle. The police said no further details were available at this time as the investigation is ongoing. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Anderson and Kuhbander families during this incredibly difficult time,” a spokesperson for the department said.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office said their bodies would be sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of manner of death. Anderson and Kuhbander were identified as two Liberty County firefighters. Liberty County is located below Savannah. Hinesville police said the two were driving a black 2017 Ford Focus with a firefighter logo on the license plate. That car was found near their bodies. Soon after they were reported missing, Kuhbander’s mother posted on social media that she did not believe her son left with Anderson willingly. She said Anderson was a danger to herself and that her son was probably trying to help her. Kuhbander and Anderson reportedly dated for several years, but were no longer a couple, according to his mother.
Two firefighters from Georgia who went missing on June 25 have been found dead in Tennessee, according to authorities. The bodies of Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander, both 24, were discovered in Cocke County, Tennessee, by the Hinesville Police Department. Anderson’s car was also discovered in Tennessee, authorities said. “Tennessee authorities are currently investigating the scene,” Hinesville Police Department said in a statement on Facebook. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Anderson and Kuhbander families during this incredibly difficult time.” Their last known location was Crosby, Tennessee, and were possibly headed to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, according to reports. Details pertaining to the discovery of their bodies, vehicle and events leading to their deaths are not available at this time, police said.
Soon after the two were reported missing, Kuhbander’s mother took to Facebook to say that she did not believe her son left with Anderson willingly. Kuhbander and Anderson reportedly dated for many years, but were no longer a couple, according to Kuhbander’s mother. Authorities urge that anyone who has seen the two firefighters or has any information should reach out to Hinesville Police Department. A spokesperson for Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells Inside Edition in an email, “The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the circumstances leading to the death of two people after their bodies were discovered inside a vehicle along Hollow Road in Cosby on Sunday morning. Their bodies have been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death as well as to be positively identified. At this time, the investigation remains active and ongoing.”
The bodies of two Georgia firefighters who recently broke off their relationship were found on Sunday in Tennessee, more than one week after they went missing, officials said. The Hinesville Police Department confirmed the discovery of Raegan Anderson, 25, and her ex-boyfriend, Chandler Kuhbander, 24, in Cocke County, about 450 miles north of their hometown. Their bodies were found in Anderson’s vehicle. Kuhbander’s mother, Jane Kuhbander, told Court TV last week that they had been together for more than seven years before ending the “toxic” union. Anderson, Jane said, struggled to accept the end of the relationship and repeatedly threatened to kill herself.
The bodies of Georgia firefighters Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander were found Sunday in Tennessee, more than a week after the pair went missing. Her son, she said, had gone on a date with another woman on June 23, the day before he disappeared, and Anderson allegedly found his car and keyed it. She was arrested for the crime and later bonded out. Anderson believed she was likely to lose her job with the fire department and expressed her spiraling fears to Kuhbander. The following day, Kuhbander went to work out at a Crunch Fitness center in Savannah, Georgia, and planned to later attend his younger sister’s birthday party. Surveillance cameras show Anderson circling the parking lot outside several times while he was inside, the mother said. He eventually exited the gym and began heading to his car, the video shows. However, the mother said she believes he got into her 2017 Ford Focus under “duress” – and was never heard from again.
Prior to the discovery of the bodies, she told the network that Anderson was not in the right “head space” and wrote a suicide note to her son the day before they vanished. In a Facebook post, she described Anderson as a “danger to herself and [her son] is believed to not be with her willingly.” Despite their breakup, Kuhbander continued to try to comfort Anderson but was sometimes forced to plead with her to stop harassing him. “He’s very driven to do the right thing and make sure people are safe,” she told Court TV. “He really does care about Raegan.” Days later, they were both found dead. An autopsy will be performed on the Liberty County firefighters to determine their manner of death. “Details pertaining to the discovery of their bodies, vehicle and events leading to their deaths are not available at this time,” police said after the bodies were found.
